Grayfluvia previous next
Grayfluvia began with a large drawing based on several of the Magellan Mission images of the surface of Venus. The forms of flow in the drawing suggested fluvia, or alluvial qualities. In this digital image I crashed/collided the alluvial flow drawing into a central matrix of linear structures which I derived from my photographs of electrical substations and the natural gas extraction installations in the Sacramento River Delta at Pittsburg and Antioch, California. I also appropriate text from a drawing by Lawrence Weiner- 'made to appear.' The collision / collusion of the alluvial flow and large-scale energy installations makes a bio-assemblage. Often energy extraction technologies in California are situated in the midst of marginal, liminal areas like marsh and swampland.
