| Attempt to Measure Sea Ice Extent 4 (La Esperanza) |

| La Esperanza is a market in the small town of Soledad, California, in the Salinas Valley. One Sunday in winter I shot the storm clouds gathering over the Big Sur in the distance from the market’s parking lot. The image develops from this site in the upper registers. In a palimpsest, layers of video stills from the film “Tesserae of Venus part 1 (Ghostdance)”, record bird migration at the Salton Sea geothermal plants as well as shots of the Medranos natural gas turbines in the Sacramento Delta. The image triangulates the sites within the night studio interior. The yellow tesserae-model drawings are stacked architecturally like stacks in a library. The door out of the library is in the dark region. |
