| Attempt to Measure Sea Ice Extent 7 (Average September) |
| In the Arctic, each September since 1979, after the summer melt, sea ice extent is calibrated and compared with previous years. This year (September 2009) the sea ice extent loss was greatest for this thirty year period. The present image began when I was downloading data on polar sea ice last spring. I started to map the graphics of polar ice extent over and through layers of images shot at a remote high desert site, an alkaline dry lake bed, Soda Lake, where I built ephemeral installations of transparent scrims in winter and photographed them through the late afternoon light on the salt flats. |
