A meditation on subliminal datafields below the salt. Recursions race through
'flying' mathematical figurations, against a montage of fleeting shots
--GPS-tracking lowriders, a startled pronghorn, pyrotechnics experiments,
gushing groundwater. Shot on location, GPS Expo, Center for Land Use Interpretation,
Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, GPS Expo, July 2006. With music by Steve Nalepa, "Rhodes
Racer" (2006). Steve Nalepa on "Rhodes Racer" : "The
predominant sound comes from a Rhodes piano, offset against backward beats
and bioacoustic atmospheres run through delay effects. The 'Racer'
in the title references the point about halfway through the song where
I double the tempo of the Rhodes and drum parts. It is subtle, but
it reminded me of cars going around a racetrack, and I also liked the way
'Rhodes Racer' rolls off the tongue."
