GEOMORPHOLOGY previous next
The northwest end of Carrizo Plain is platted with streets of no or few inhabitants; most byways, street signs suburban-sthyle aside, are long dirt roads through the unstable alkaline flats. Off the Elkhorn Road I came upon a homesite, abandoned as if all in one day. Phone lying on the ground, call waiting. The calendar in a kid’s backpack: January 23, 1980.
