I just went out to my old
haunts at Carrizo Plain National Monument. In March, 2008, Bruce
Tomb, an architect and sculptor who teaches at California College
of the Arts (San Francisco), asked me to be a visiting artist for
his field trip there on 'casting topologies' -- casting from the
landscape. In its very broad sense. the drawings also topographically
related to the terrain of mixed alkaline crust and black earth at
Soda Lake, a saline sink at Carrizo. The drawings become a topology.
